  • Ausies Warned of New Phone Scam

The Department of Consumer Protection in Western Australia has issued an alert on a new phone scam. Fraudsters claiming to work for the Australian Taxation Office are calling people asking them for banking details claiming that they are eligible for a GST refund.

According to a spokesperson of the department, many West Australians have lost money to these scammers. Many victims were requested to send money abroad in order to have the refunds paid into their accounts.

The department alerted people that they will never call to inform people of refunds.
