  • Rugby Scam Alert

The IRB has issued an alert on a new scam that targets rugby players and coaches seeking positions abroad. According to the IRB a preliminary investigation revealed that the Internet-based scam appears to originate from Nigeria.

Victims of the scam are requested to send money to a certain bank account in respect of Visas and Playing Licenses at rugby clubs or academies which does not exist or are being misrepresented. Once the money is paid there is virtually no chance of recovering the losses, as with any other Nigerian 419 scam.

The IRB has urged all players or coaches receiving invitations to first verify the bona fides of a club or academy prior to applying for a position. Do not make use of the contact information provided in the e-mail, but rather make use of Google.com in looking for the real contact information of the club or academy.
