David Hester, a former A&E Storage Wars cast member, has filed suit against the cable network and Original Prods., in a claim that states he was unlawfully terminated after he alleged the show was being fraudulent. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, also claims the wrongful firing was a breach of contract and that the company was using unfair business practices.
Hester alleges Storage Wars is staged and is committing fraud by planting valuable memorabilia or items in the storage bins. He noted two instances of such possible staging. In the first instances, there were old newspapers that announced Elvis Presley’s death. In the second instance, buried under trash was a BMW mini car.
When he decided to make his allegations known to the producers, informing them that staging a storage unit could be illegal, producers fired him from Storage Wars. They also withdrew the offer of hiring him for another season.
In the suit, Hester claims the producers rig the bidding process. And, that the network paid for one of the female cast members to have plastic surgery to boost her appearance so that she would appeal more to the viewers.
The complaint goes on to say that Storage Wars prides itself on being “non-fiction” but most all aspects of the show is rigged or faked.
Hester is seeking damages of more than $750,000.
An A&E rep said they had no knowledge of such a lawsuit and would not comment on any threatened or pending litigation.
