Scammers and conmen are on the lookout for your money, posing as legitimate folks requesting money to help the victims of Superstorm Sandy get back on their feet as well as other possible frauds.

Authorities are warning the public about such Sandy-related fraud that will extend beyond the storm region – fake charities, flood-damaged vehicle sales and home repair scams.

The Justice Department, businesses, consumer groups and state attorney generals are asking consumers to be vigilant about such requests for donations, which usually come in the form of phone calls, text messages, Twitter, Facebook and e-mail.

The best thing people can do when they’re being pitched by unknown groups, solicitors and contractors is to be skeptical and only give money to businesses and charities they trust.
